Greetings Hello,
Our August BeeGroup meeting is this Tuesday (8/20) starting at 5:45PM. This month we will be meeting at Sharon's, 422 Upper Byrdcliffe Road, Woodstock, NY. This will be our last hands-on meeting in an apiary this season and there will be no meeting in September. Our October meeting will be the annual honey tasting contest at the Olive Library. Even if you don't have bees yet, we encourage you to attend and help us decide who has the best honey for 2024.

Bring your bee jacket, Veil, gloves, etc. I will have extra protective gear for those who don't have any yet.

An artist is on a mission to paint 50,000 bees in murals across the world

Matt Willey has painted over 10,200 bees in 53 murals, several of which are in the Carolinas -- fitting, as the honey bee is North Carolina's state insect.
|
Willey said a honey bee flew into his studio, and was crawling slowly on the floor. He felt compelled, and spent time hanging out with the bee until she died later that day.
|
"I connected with her in a way I had never connected with an insect before," Willey said. "I saw the cuteness, the fuzziness, the big antenna, the eyes, it was just an emotional connection. And I did hear this voice that said, this is just about change, another form of change."

A SAD DAY IN THE BEE YARD...

Beltsville Lab: If your bees die, God Forbid!, please send a sample to the Beltsville Lab in Maryland. The analysis is free and they will email you the results. They check for Nosema and Mites. I sent a sample down a month ago and my hive was loaded with mites -- in December! Please share results with Rob,Tom and the BeeGroup so we can help keep tabs on what is happening in the 'hood.
