Greetings Hello,
It's time for our annual honey tasting competition. We encourage everyone to attended and help decide who gets to carry the title of "Best Honey 2023". If you have honey to enter, please bring it. There is nothing better than having a lot of different honey to sample. It allows us the truly appreciate the wonders of honey and the miraculous honey bee.

We will also be discussing winter preparation for those that haven't completed it.

We will meeting starting at 5:45PM at the Olive Free Library in West Shokan. Hope to see you all!

Farewell to our Friends.....
|
For those that aren't aware, Bill and Britta have packed up shop and moved to Germany. They have been a core part of the BeeGroup for many years and will be greatly missed. We wish them the best in their new endeavor and hope they get back into beekeeping quickly. Bill has graciously offered to continue publishing our monthly newsletter once they get settled (They just arrived in Germany yesterday). So until then you are stuck with me doing it :-P

Last year around this time, the Empire State Building acquired a whopping 50,000 new workers—worker bees, that is!
In October of 2022, Alvéole urban beekeepers installed a hive on a sixth floor patio of the legendary scraper of the skies; NYC’s hottest new address for winged insects. Busily they buzzed along, and now the fruits of their pursuits have been harvested, that liquid gold, that sweet amber, that nature’s candy (get out of here you raisins!): honey.

Australia is exterminating tens of millions of bees to save its honey industry

Tens of millions of bees are being exterminated in a desperate attempt to save Australia's honey industry from a devastating mite plague.
Australia is the last major honey-producing nation to be hit by a varroa mite plague and is taking the measure to kill thousands of honeybee colonies to stop the mites spreading.

A SAD DAY IN THE BEE YARD...

Beltsville Lab: If your bees die, God Forbid!, please send a sample to the Beltsville Lab in Maryland. The analysis is free and they will email you the results. They check for Nosema and Mites. I sent a sample down a month ago and my hive was loaded with mites -- in December! Please share results with Rob,Tom and the BeeGroup so we can help keep tabs on what is happening in the 'hood.
